Our Society

We are a friendly society welcoming every gardener from the complete novice to those with a vast amount of experience. At the present time we have some 77 plots of various sizes, these are privately owned by the church diocese and are situated behind St. Mary’s Church in Handsworth. One of the aims of the society is to maintain and improve these plots where possible. The main access to the allotments is off Bramley Lane in Handsworth, you'll find a map on our Contact page.

Originally the allotments were far more extensive than they are now. In the mid 1950’s, part of the original site was used to build new homes and many plots were lost. The remaining allotment area was provided with a system of new drives which resulted in many of the original plot boundaries being changed.

The Society is open to both new members (plot holders) and new associate members (non plot holders). However, due to the ever increasing popularity of allotment gardening, those requiring a plot will be added to our waiting list. To find out how to apply for membership please see our Membership page.
