GROWERS GUIDE

Rhubarb

Not too difficult to grow

Plant bought or ‘own’ sets (young plants from divided root ball) 90cm apart in rows at 30cm. Choose well drained moist soil on a sunny sheltered site.

Mulch to conserve moisture but avoid burying top buds (crowns) as they may rot. Remove yellowing leaves and leaves killed by frost.

Harvest from second year. Gently pull (don’t cut) 30cm long stems. Cover the crown with a large pot in spring to force growth for an earlier crop.
